Deed Index Search

A society volunteer will search the Deed Indexes (both grantor and grantee) for a prepaid cost of $15 per name spelling per 10-year period.

• Example 1: Search John Hoffmann from 1850–1859. This is one search ($15.00)
• Example 2: Search John Hoffmann and John Huffmann from 1850–1859. This is a search for two different surname spellings, so two searches ($30.00).
• Example 3: Search John Hoffmann 1855–1874. This is a search for two decades, so two searches ($30.00)

You receive an electronic report (PDF) by email which outlines what was searched and any findings within three weeks. The report includes the names of the grantor and grantee, book and page(s), instrument number, filing date, and any other information in the index.

Photocopies

Biographies, newspaper articles, and obituaries indexed on this website.

Questions we answer

Though unable to provide in-depth research, our volunteers may be able to suggest resources for you to explore. Email your question.

Examples of good questions which tell us some records you have already searched are:

• “Where can I get a marriage about 1870 for John Anyname to Mary, born [maiden name]?” Their first child, Einstein, was baptized in St. Clair at what is now St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, per my copy of this book.
• “Where else can I search for a death circa 1890 for Perry Johnson.” There is no death certificate at the courthouse and he is not in the society’s cemetery indexes online and not in Find A Grave. His last residence was Cahokia in 1880.
