IRAD handles county and municipal records and acts as the official depository for St. Clair documents and records released for public use and research (some births, great marriage licenses and certificates, deed indexes, probate case files, jail records.)

Free research by interns in historical disciplines. Copies are billed at cost. Pre-statehood (1818) records for St. Clair County are at the Illinois State Archives (ISA). The ISA manages IRAD. The websites, under the direction of the Secretary of State, look very similar and some St. Clair vital records are indexed on the ISA site (read more below).

Click the Databases link for St. Clair County marriage index 1763 to 1905, Chancery Court Index 18151870 (divorce, land division among heirs) and the Servitude and Emancipation Record. Pre-statehood St. Clair County records and the Perrin Collection are also stored at the ISA.

Statewide databases include Illinois Soldiers in various wars, marriage index, death certificates index 1916 - 1950, and 19th Century Illinois Public Domain Land Sales. The Illinois State Genealogical Society offers a copy service for death certificates at a reduced fee.

BLM Bureau of Land Management Online Public Domain land purchase database for several states after 1820 (but for Illinois also includes Military Tract purchases from 1817-forward). Dates reflect patent issued date. The Illinois State Archives' database is more comprehensive.
FamilySearch Free federal census and "Illinois, Diocese of Belleville" church registers online. Search the Family History Library Catalog for microfilm available on interlibrary loan to the Family History Center near you.
